16-arrow-right Degree

Applicants must have obtained a recognized Bachelor's Degree (BS, BSc, SB, etc.) – or a degree at the same level of an academic Bachelor's Degree, for instance its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of high standing, or 180 ECTS credits in the European system – in one of the following (or equivalent) fields:
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Mathematics with a good background in Physics
  • Physics with a good background in Mathematics
  • Engineering with a large background in Mathematics and Physics.
Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on condition that their Bachelor's degrees are awarded before the enrolment at MathMods MSc. The accomplishment of the Bachelor's studies must be documented no later than  15 August 2010

16-arrow-right Language certificate

All applicants whose native language is not English are required to prove a satisfactory level of spoken and written English, certified by:

  • TOEFL: minimum 550 for PBT / 213 for CBT / 80 for IBT. You may send the TOEFL certificate simply as a photocopy or you may send it directly through ETS. Use these data when adding us as a new score recipient: Code number: 3676, Institution: University of L'Aquila.
  • IELTS: 6.0 points
  • CPE: Grades A, B, C
  • CAE: Grades A, B
  • or equivalent to the above.

The test must have been taken within the four years immediately preceding the requested semester of admission and be valid at the time of enrolment.

If applicants don't have an English certificate by the deadline, we may also accept a temporary certificate by the Director/Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree study programme (or an academic in that group) stating that the applicant is so fluent in English that s/he can understand and discuss high level scientific topics. If possible, the letter should be signed either by a native English speaker academic full Professor or by an academic full Professor in English language (with full contacts included). Then, if you are selected, you will have to send an official certificate (see the list above) no later than  15 August 2010.

24-book-blue-remove Who doesn't have to certify English proficiency?

  • Applicants having obtained a Bachelor's Degree in an institution in which English is the language of instruction.
  • Applicants who obtained their high school leaving qualifications in an English speaking country (provided they submit documentation of it).

16-arrow-right Checklist of mandatory documents

All applicants will have to submit the following mandatory documents through the online application before the deadlines:

  1. scanned pdf file of passport (or ID card for European applicants);
  2. scanned pdf file of a detailed curriculum vitae (only use this template. Click here for instructions and examples);
  3. scanned pdf file of full academic transcript, with records for each single attended course and with the list of courses to be attended to get your Bachelor's Degree;
  4. scanned pdf file containing a description of the attended courses you consider relevant for your application, especially the courses related to Mathematics and Physics. Only use this template. As this is not a document usually issued by universities, applicants have to fill in that file by themselves as self-certification;

  6. scanned pdf file of two signed academic recommendation letters, including full contacts of the Professors;
  7. for all the above documents, in case they are not written in English, please upload an official English translation, or a translation provided and signed by the Institution awarding the Bachelor's Degree and (if possible) by a native English speaker academic full Professor or by an academic full Professor in English language (with full contacts included);
  8. scanned pdf file of a letter of intent (no more than 1 page is allowed, extra pages will not be evaluated) describing particular interests in the subjects related to the proposed fields of study.

Additional documents might be submitted only if closely related to the proposed field of study.
