The Intensive Programme (IP) in "Mathematical Models in Life and Social Sciences - MathMods 2009" will consist of a set of short courses (both basic and more advanced ones) and seminars, with master students and doctoral students as target audience. The participation of 30 students (MSc + PhD) from the partner universities will be supported by the EC Erasmus Programme.

The programme will be centred on applied mathematics viewed as an interdisciplinary area at the interface with biology, medicine, economy and social sciences. It will cover several applied topics such as wealth distribution analysis in finance, models for opinion formation, individual based simulations, mathematical methods in medical imaging. The programme will address different methodologies, such as the analysis of partial differential equations, numerical calculus and simulations, stochastic calculus and kinetic modelling.

The programme will take place at Hotel Sporting in Alba Adriatica (Italy) in the period September 7-19, 2009.

The programme is addressed to
- MSc students
- PhD students (priority will be given to first year’s students)
- Undergraduate students who are expected to complete their bachelor studies by end of September 2009

Students enrolled to a 5 years undergraduate study course who are expected to complete the first 3 years of studies by the end of September 2009 are also eligible.

All students must be enrolled to a study course in one of the following disciplines: mathematics, applied mathematics, informatics, computer science, physics, engineering, biology, biotechnology (and similar ones).

Scholarships are offered to students from the partner institutions.
