Updates from the University of L'Aquila (UAQ), Italy
Many thanks to our special guest, Prof. Paola Inverardi, rector of the University of L'Aquila, who honoured us with her presence!
Happy Holidays, everyone!
A small orchestra presented a lovely mini-concert in our classroom (in Coppito1, L'Aquila) this morning. The event was part of a series of mini-concerts organized by Prof. Fusillo (University of L'Aquila) and Orazio Tuccella (Officina Musicale), and delivered during a few selected quarto d'ora accademico, which is the Italian way to refer to a break we usually have in between classes.
The Skyron Flute Ensemble quartet performed for us today:
- "Tempesta di mare" by A. Vivaldi
- "Pavane" by G. Fauré
Our thanks to Prof. Di Francesco for having our class included in this event!

You are all invited to take part in the Welcome-Week organized by Aquilasmus, a student association part of ESN - Erasmus Student Network.
The key event will be the Welcome-Day meeting, which will run on Wednesday (October 12) at 5 pm in the Aula Magna of the Department of Human Studies (city centre, Viale Nizza, 14).
There will be a presentation of what the association does for international students (e.g. organizing parties, trips, international dinners, cine-forums...) and you'll also be given a welcome pack (with pens, notebooks, maps etc).. For more info join their FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/981808825231564. At the end of the meeting there'll be a buffet dinner, too.
We really hope everybody will be there! Apart from the event itself, this will be a great way for you to get to know other international students and be involved in the activities they'll be organizing over the year. By the way, this week they're organizing quite a few events you can't definitley miss: city and university tour, arrosticini BBQ, films, a day-trip to the mountains, pub-crawls etc.
Enjoy the event!
Congratulations to our students who graduated at the same time on the same day (Thursday, September 15, 2016) but in two different places:
- L'Aquila (Philip Chan, Evans Etrue, Rodrigo Malavazi, Amr Ibrahim)
- Barcelona (Mael Guiomard, Thimjo KOCA, Boris PFAHRINGER and Boris Polcik )
Now that's a consortium! All the best for your future!
Here are a few photos from the excursion we made today (Sept 13, 2016) on mount Gran Sasso with our first and second-year students from MathMods and InterMaths (there were almost 80 of us!).
We took an "EASY" path from Campo Imperatore up to Rifugio Duca Degli Abruzzi. Then we had an arrosticini barbecue at Fonte Vetica (we're sure everyone has fallen in love with them by now!). Later in the afternoon we stopped by in the medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, where we made our way through its narrow cobbled streets.
We hope you all enjoyed the trip as much as we did! See you on the next trip.
