Elbstrand Picnic on 19 June 2026

Just before the challenging exam period began in Hamburg, we went on a lovely excursion to the famous harbour and the Elbe beach in Hamburg.

On a hot and sunny Friday afternoon, we met with our MathMods and InterMaths students at the Port of Hamburg, at Landungsbrücken. We took the nearby Elbe Tunnel Elevator to go under the Elbe River. Then we walked through the tunnel (426,5 m length and 23 meters below normal sea level) to the Steinwerder side — it’s free and a fun and refreshing experience below the Elbe river. From the viewpoint on the other side, we took some photos and enjoyed the great panorama of Hamburg. The Elbe Tunnel was considered a technical sensation when it opened in 1911 and was awarded the title “Historic Landmark of Civil Engineering in Germany” in 2011.

After reaching Landungsbrücken again, we took ferry 62 to the harbour named Övelgönne/Neumühlen, an open-air harbour with historic ships. From there, we walked to the Elbe beach, where we spent the afternoon relaxing, eating snacks, playing games (cards, volleyball), and watching the giant container ships pass by.

Hamburg in summer is just brilliant!

L'Aquila City Tour 2025

Monday, 01 December 2025 14:04

More than one hundred international students from the InterMaths, MathMods, and RealMaths programmes took part in a guided tour of the city of L’Aquila on Saturday, 29 November 2025.

The initiative promoted by the "MathMods and Intermaths Alumni Association", offered participants an opportunity to learn about the city’s cultural heritage while exploring the places where they study and live during their academic experience in Italy.

The tour was not only an occasion to admire L’Aquila’s historic landmarks, but also a moment of meaningful exchange among students from diverse backgrounds. Throughout the day, participants shared experiences, engaged in conversations, and deepened their understanding of the local community.

The event concluded with enthusiastic feedback from students, who appreciated both the welcoming atmosphere and the chance to strengthen connections within the international academic network.
